Outposts Unknown FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about Star Trek: Outposts Unknown.

When does Star Trek: Outposts Unknown release?
October 20, on Windows PC via Steam. The date was announced in the official release date trailer (August 2026). Until launch day you can wishlist the game and play the free demo covering the Daegus opening.
Is there a demo?
Yes — a free demo has been live on the Steam store page since June 2026. It covers the game's opening on Daegus, the tropical oasis world: your first outpost, crew task assignment and the research loop. Demo progress does not carry over to the full game.
How much does the game cost?
$32.99 USD on Steam, confirmed by the developer's launch Captain's Devlog in October 2026. Regional pricing is displayed on the Steam store page, which remains the authoritative source for your currency.
What platforms is the game on?
Windows PC via Steam at launch. The developer's launch announcement (October 2026) confirms Mac support will follow in a future patch; consoles have not been announced.
Is Star Trek: Outposts Unknown multiplayer?
No — the store page lists it as a single-player game. It is a narrative-driven builder: you command the U.S.S. Resonant and its crew through the story of the X'Lehari system and the Tetryon Rift mystery.
What kind of game is it?
A top-down outpost builder with a narrative campaign — TrekMovie called it "SimCity meets Strange New Worlds". You construct research outposts across alien worlds, manage 55+ resources through production chains, and develop your crew, all in service of investigating the Tetryon Rift.
What are the system requirements?
Minimum: Windows 10 (21H1), Ryzen 5 2600 or i5-8500, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1660 (6GB) or RX 5600 XT, 10 GB storage. Recommended: Ryzen 7 7800X3D or i5-14600K with RTX 3060 or RX 5700 XT. Note the 16 GB RAM floor — older 8 GB machines are below spec.
Who makes the game?
Magic Fuel Games, a studio of former SimCity, The Sims and Spore developers, publishes through Playstack. General manager Kip Katsarelis fronts the developer walkthroughs. The team's city-builder pedigree is why comparisons to SimCity and Spore keep coming up.
When is the story set?
In the 23rd century, alongside the era of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Admiral Robert April (played by Adrian Holmes in the show) is confirmed to appear among "familiar faces", and your crew serves aboard the U.S.S. Resonant in the X'Lehari system.
Is it connected to Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown?
No — they are different games from different studios that share part of a name. Outposts Unknown is the planetary outpost builder launching October 20; Voyager - Across the Unknown is a starship adventure that launched earlier in 2026. Our comparison guide breaks down the differences.
Does the game have achievements?
Yes — Steam Achievements are listed on the official store page, though the full achievement list has not been published before launch. Our achievements page fills in the complete table with unlock rates during launch week.
What is the Tetryon Rift?
The central mystery of the story: a cosmic force threatening a fragile civilization your crew is sent to aid. Each world of the X'Lehari system offers a different perspective on the rift — the research you build outposts to conduct is the in-game path to understanding it.
What worlds are in the game?
Three are confirmed: Daegus, the tropical oasis where the demo takes place; Kourou, a frozen world of moving glaciers, steam fields and volcanic badlands; and Neral, the last planet of the X'Lehari system, revealed at Gamescom 2026 and described as the most hostile environment in the game. Our worlds hub profiles all three.

No — this is an independent, fan-made guide. Every fact on the site is sourced from official materials: the Steam store page, Magic Fuel Games' developer posts and launch trailers, with the source and snapshot date noted on each page. See our about page for details.
