Mess Hall Guide

System: Welfare

Produces: Food service

What the Mess Hall Does

The mess hall is the confirmed food backbone of an outpost — named directly in the developer's Kourou walkthrough as a system that "needs to be well-supplied". It is also the building where the starship connection becomes tangible: when a world cannot feed your outpost, you can request resources from your ship's own storage, and the official example is exactly this — "a shipment of food proteins from the Resonant may be all you need".

Feeding an Outpost: Two Supply Paths

That makes the mess hall the clearest window into the resource logistics system. Food can come from the planet — harvested, refined and combined through your production chains — or from the U.S.S. Resonant itself when the local supply falls short. Managing both paths without wasting cargo capacity is the logistics skill the game is explicitly built around.

Before committing to a food production chain on a new world, check what the planet actually grows or exposes. Importing everything from the Resonant works, but it spends ship storage you may want for exotic resources.

What We Still Expect to Learn at Launch

Consumption per crew member, whether meal variety affects morale, and how fast the Resonant can resupply are unconfirmed. Launch-week backfill replaces this section with verified numbers.
